Non Uniformed Volunteers
Every organisation needs a needs a “back office”. Scouting has prided itself that it is not an organisation but it is a MOVEMENT. We believe that “movement” means that it goes forward and adjusts to the day to day week to week year to year changes in the lives of the young people we serve. Having said that we need forward thinking interested people in support of the leaders. We often need people to chair various meetings and do the work of Secretaries and Treasurers. Just to me a member of the various support committees and giving valuable expertise and knowledge is very useful to us. There are many opportunities to help without training to be with the young people but at the same time giving valuable service and making a worthwhile contribution.
A volunteer says
'I was involved in a youth club when I was younger. Now my children have taken to scouts in a big way. By helping out where and when I can, I give something back for the fun I had when I was a youngster. It sometimes even gets me out of the washing up !'
No need to need to take on a formal role just help where you can – every little helps! (who said that?)
