Uniformed Volunteers with North Dorset District Scouts
COULD YOU... do any of the following?
Could you train four young people aged between 11 and 14 to:

Could you train young people to climb up here, give them the confidence to try, look after their welfare and safety and do the right thing if they lose their nerve and incur the taunts of their mates?

Could you tell young people of the dangers of activity near and on the water; then motivate them into trying out a canoe or a raft. Could you get the certificate required to allow you to run this sort of activity?

Could you train as an archery or shooting instructor and take responsibility for teaching young people how to shoot accurately and keep safe when others are firing?

Could you take young people on a ramble, to learn about wild-life, plants and everything natural in world world around us. How they use nature’s bounty to keep alive, warm and fed?

Could you give young people the opportunity to do something Mum would never let them like getting covered in mud. Sleeping out in the pouring rain in a bivouac they built themselves out of natural materials or eating dinner with their fingers or cutlery they have made themselves?

Could you learn First Aid and other skills to facilitate your involvement with young people?

Could you train to build pioneering projects, make them safe and enthuse the young people to enjoy them and pack everything away for next time?

Positions
There are many uniformed positions available on the premise that 'many hands make light work'. In general the Leaders are responsible for leading the other adults and Young Leaders in the efficient running of the programme in the section.
Assistant Leaders are responsible for their own designated parts of the programme and are encouraged to take a full part in the planning.
Both Leaders and Assistant Leaders in all sections are required to pass a CRB check, interview and complete the leader training programme within three years. The Leader Training programme can lead to a nationally recognised qualification if the student so requires.
Colony/Pack/Troop/Unit assistants are people who have an interest in the section and wish to give some time to supporting it sometimes by offering specialist knowledge or working one to ne with young people with special needs. There is always an activity to be run. A CRB check is required and interviews are held.
Network Member
People aged 18-25 join the network to give help and assistance and to work towards the more Senior Qualifications like the Duke of Edinburgh Gold Award and the Queen's Scout Award. They often help out at larger gatherings and are encouraged to become leaders in their own right. CRB check required.
Scout Active Support member
Often former leaders or others previously involved in the movement who want to 'give something back', these members often have special skills they want to share, but these adults are essential as a 'pool of expertise' available throughout the District and sometimes farther afield. CRB check required.
